Paper & Metal for Seasonal Flora

Gathering paper of all sorts to add to our mixed media options this Saturday at the

In our workshop coming up on Saturday, Feb. 20th from 1-5pm in the Education Wing, we'll be celebrating our favorite season using images, designs, and memories of plants & flowers. The perfect end-of-winter pick-me-up I know I will benefit from! We'll be exploring mixed-media applications, incorporating patter & seasonal color, and we'll finish off with the delicate application of metal leaf for the ultimate homage to nature. Here are a few examples of what I've created:

While shopping for artisan-made collage paper can be lots of fun, it is very expensive. Although I occasionally indulge in a couple pieces of beautiful paper which I tend to hang on to over the years,

I also up-cycle with what I have at home.

These, drying above, are a combination of brown paper bags from the local grocery store & flat acrylic paint I roughly added to the damp, crinkled bags. I also add a conditioner to get them to feel soft to the touch. These subtle colors will add to the vibrant colored paper we have to choose from. I'll also be adding text from Barlett's Familiar Quotations to offer as an additional inspiration option.

If you are new to metal leaf, here's a little video of how easy it is to apply after the size (glue) dries. I'm applying 24k gold I had left over from another project with a dry paint brush.

Stephanie-Elizabeth, our newest addition to the family, makes a cameo.

Thank you for reading & I look forward to this weekend!
